The Department of Russian language and literature (the “Russian Department” for short) was established in 1950. It boasts an integrated teaching team enjoying certain reputation nationwide which is renowned for rigorous attitude of scholarship,rich amassment of teaching experience with a reasonable age structure. The Department is committed to cultivating high-caliber professional talents who have a good grasp of elementary knowledge of Russian language, national conditions and culture of Russia, basic language skills and high proficiency in language application so as to be competent to be engaged in teaching, research, science and technology, economic trading, diplomatic translation as well as finance, administration, tourism and other jobs concerning Russian language. As the Sino-Russia relationship and national construction grow,the Department has also undergone ups and downs, fissions and fusions for several times to be passed from one generation to another until to its present form. Good accomplishments have been achieved in terms of operating conditions, curriculum designs, the building of teaching staff, scientific researches, teaching and educating, etc. embedded with its own characteristics. It has become one of the designated admission units and one of major cradles for cultivating high-caliber Russian talents across the nation. Researches on Russian idioms and idiomatic culture as well as the compilation of dictionaries of idioms have produced a great impact within the Russian world nationwide since 1975. The Department was authorized to offer MA degree in Russian language and literature in 1991. Since 1982, scientific Russian translation, social science Russian translation and business Russian translation have remained permanent courses of our Department which has become a distinguishing feature. In 2004, the Department began to enroll PhD graduates majoring in Chinese-Russian comparative study. In 2005, the course of “Listening” became the key course of CCNU. In 2006, the course “Introduction to Russian Culture” was incorporated into general elective courses of the University and was selected as the video course on the prestigious website named Chaoxing. In the same year, the course “Basic Russian” was granted the Quality Course of Hubei Province. For more than half a century, the Department has been an executive director member of China Russian Language Teaching Association. More than 3,000 undergraduates, plus over 80 postgraduates and 6 PhD postgraduates have been cultivated as excellent Russian talents for institutions of higher learning and other professions across China, and are well received by their employers. |
